Love It Or Hate It - It's Still A Hummer...
- By: Tony Quintela
There's about as many opinions on the Hummer as there are people in this country, possibly more. There's 2 distinct sides when it comes to the hummer. You either hate it or you love it. And then there's the individual that likes one Hummer but not another. Which category do you fall in?
Personally I've always favored the Hummer 1. I was attracted by it's looks and performance after seen it in action in the Persian Gulf war. It's rugged, and it can be configured in many different ways. Locally I've seen it configured for river raft adventures as used by tour guides. In the gulf war as well as in the current Iraq war, you see it configured with machine guns and all other sort of equipment.
The Hummer 1, is the most expensive in the line of Hummers. Then, there's the medium size Hummer, the H2. Love by many and hated by some. It takes some of it's looks from the H1, but it has a smaller foot-print and very doubtful that it can go or do all the things that the Hummer 1 is capable of doing. Price is about half or less than the H1.
The newest addition to the Hummer family is the H3. I think this must be about as small as a Hummer can get and still be called a Hummer. Supposedly is a very popular model in the European countries and it's rumored that a factory will be assembling them in South Africa, starting in 2006.
The Hummer by its very nature is a gas guzzler and therefore it's not liked by many for that reason. They say that the resources are being sucked up and dry up by this gas vacuum machine. The Hummer lover in the other hand, does not see it that way at all. To them the Hummer uses no more gas than a large model Ford, Chevy or Dodge pickup truck.
Whether you like the Hummer 1 or any of the other models, will depend on what your plans are for this awesome vehicle. The 2006 models are out and they range from $29,000 upwards of over $100,000.
If you don't like the Hummer because you think it's too expensive or you think it uses too much gas or whatever else you might think, just remember in America at least you have the power of choice, choose a cheaper, economical, smaller car or truck if you like. That's your choice. Let the Hummer lover have it's way and choose a Hummer if that's what they one. Freedom to choose one of the reasons we live in America.
