The Toyota SUV Luxury Models

By: Harvey Ong

Toyota Motor Corporation is one of Japan's biggest, brightest automobile manufacturing companies. The company has a reputation for making cars that are road-friendly, user-friendly, and customization-friendly. Toyota also has a reputation for making some of the finest luxury vehicles on the Japanese market, rivaling competitors like Mitsubishi, Ford, and General Motors. The Toyota SUV models have become part of that reputation. It is no surprise, therefore, that Toyota SUV models have also come to include two high-quality luxury models in the roster.

The premier Toyota SUV for the luxury car market is the Toyota Lexus LX. The LX model was one of the best SUV models introduced during 1996 and has consistently been one of the best designed cars since then. The LX model that is currently in production boasts a powerful four-speed automatic overdrive transmission with a maximum horsepower of 275, as of 2006. The LX also has one of the most luxurious, feature-laden interiors from among Toyota Motor's vehicles, if not any automobile company's. Features that come standard include a Bluetooth integration technology, a top-of-the-line Mark Levinson sound system, a camera system for security, and a navigation system based on GPS and DVD technology. There are also optional components available, some of which sound like they would fit better in a military vehicle. Among the optional features are infrared technology and night vision capabilities.

The other luxury Toyota SUV is the Lexus GX 740. The previously mentioned LX is full-sized, as opposed to the GX, which is a mid-sized luxury SUV. While the GX's V8 engine is only capable of generating 201 horsepower, it boasts performance statistics superior to that of the LX. Unlike most other cars of its size, the GX has much more leg room, even when one considers the three seating rows that the car has. According to reports, the GX has the biggest engine Toyota Motors has ever placed into one of their luxury cars. The transmission system is controlled electronically, as well as the four-wheel drive. For entertainment, the GX designers threw in a DVD playback system for the rear seats.

The entire car, like other Toyota SUV models, was built to withstand regular runs through rough terrain but still be urbanized enough for casual drivers and families. One caveat about the GX, however, is the fact that the chassis is welded steel, which makes it more difficult for car modification enthusiasts to tamper with. Then again, most car modification enthusiasts prefer to tamper with Toyota engines and transmission systems, so the chassis is only a minor problem.

Regardless of whether one prefers the LX or the GX, one cannot place doubt on the excellent design elements and technical execution that went into the manufacture of both Toyota SUV models. Both boast some of the most powerful engines Toyota Motors has ever put into their cars. Both of them come laden with several luxury features and more leg room than most SUV drivers even need. Both the LX and GX are designed with both function and form in mind. In the event that the driver becomes discontented with the design of the Toyota SUV, both vehicles also are also easy to customize, if one has the right know-how.
